Mesa

Mesa is a gateway to Grand Mesa,  Colorado's westernmost ski area located on the edge of the Grand Mesa, world's largest flat topped mountain, Traverse countryside once used by the Utes for hunting grounds, where pioneers grazed cattle, and former Olympic skiers play. You will see why people, for decades, have loved the Grand Mesa.

Visitors will enjoy panoramic views stretching from valley floor to the mesa top as they tour the Grand Mesa, Designated for it’s scenic beauty and historic significance, the Byway is one of the designated roads in the nation that has been recognized as a treasure for America’s auto traveler. Fruit orchards, vineyards and fluttering aspens fill the landscape as the byway climbs to 10,000 feet, Your Colorado Vacation starts here with fishing, lodges, fine dining, trails, wineries, skiing, hunting, snowmobiling, dog sled races, breath taking sightseeing and much, much more will be at your fingertips, In central Mesa, a few cafes, gift shops and a country market will supply travel necessaries.

On the outskirts of town are acres of open space and miles of trails. In addition, more than 200 lakes are buried within picturesque pine forests. It's big . . . very big! You won't find crowds on the lakes, the trails are not congested and you can discover your own out-of-doors haven. There are opportunities for fishing, hiking, camping, biking, and just about any other outdoor adventure. In winter, skiers head to nearby Powderhorn resort or head to one of several area cross-country trails.

Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table and offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, These sites are some of the most notable and best kept in the United States. From A.D. 600 to A.D. 1300. Today, the park protects over 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings.
