Silverton isthe largest mountain range in the American Rockies with the highest elevation range in all of North America and is the only settlement located within the extraordinary San Juan Mountains, Silverton is now the only town left in San Juan County, home to Animas Forks and the Alpine Loop, the summer destination for the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train ride.

Purgatory Ski Resort is near Durango with full ameities, It is only 30 minuets from Silverton and a great place if you want to bring the whole family for a legit resort experience, Wolf Creek Ski Area is also 3 hours away from Silverton.
